become a symbol of honor in the name of his brother "Ziiinc Blue" who is the eternal
driving-force behind Oveous' work to uplift and rejoice the spirits of all people.
Oveous has been seen on NBC and UPN for SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO, ;Current TV for a video performance titled The Millions, & and ESPN2s reality hit series: ID DO ANYTHING ;He is also starred in the doc film called SP!T
In 2005, Oveous became a slam finalist and member of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
He is currently the 2006 NYC louderARTS Poetry slam champion,
and part of the 2006 louderARTS Poetry slam team that took
the national Finals stage by storm. Oveous has performed in countless venues across the US and Canada. He's also toured in European cities such as London, Paris, and Grenoble. Many Universities across the US have also experienced the words of Oveous.
Here's a snippet of what Indiana University had to say about his performance:
"The highlight of the day came shortly before 1 p.m. when poet Oveous Maximus performed
for the crowd in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. His poems addressed
topics like gender equality, turning 30, love, life in New York City and his Latino heritage.
Between pieces, Maximus shared intimate parts of his life, including his brother's suicide,
and encouraged the audience to attend college. Savino Rivera, vice president of LEC, said
the conference was a success. Rivera said he was "blown away" by Maximus' performance.
"It's hard to put into words," he said. "A lot of the topics that he covered are hushed by our society,
and he just put them all out there." by Michael Sanserino idsnews.com
